Our History

We’ve been there, done it and got most of the T-shirts.

Lee Allen started in business in 2004, setting up Adventure 4×4. This was purely a garage specialising in the service and repair of Land Rover’s and Range Rovers. Adventure 4×4 was one of the few businesses at the time that made this bold move to compete with the franchised dealers and service vehicles within the warranty period.

Over the years, Adventure 4×4 acquired PRB Services Ltd in Leeds and Stamford Garage Land Rover specialists in Bradford. This established Adventure 4×4 as a major supplier of Land Rover parts, supplying many other specialists & garages, motor factors and even the military.

In 2012, Lee split the business. Selling the workshop but retaining the parts side of the business.  Adventure 4×4 grew to be one of the biggest suppliers of Land Rover parts in the country. Due to many outside factors, Lee took the decision to close Adventure 4×4 in September 2016. The monotonous boredom of been sat in front of a computer screen, no job satisfaction, no enjoyment and Lee really missing getting stuck into doing some proper work. So he is back and enjoying what he does best. Life is not all about the money…..

 Lee Allen

Lee started his career in a local back street garage at the age of 18. Working 4  and a half days a week whilst paying for himself to go through college on day release to become a fully qualified mechanic. With a keen interest in motorsport, this lead to Lee’s involvement in club motorsport and saw him gain quite a reputation for preparing class winning cars.  Cars prepared by Lee have achieved many class and championship wins on the local motorsport scene. After a lot of encouragement from friends, Lee finally took the plunge and moved to Surrey to start a career as a mechanic in top flight professional motorsport with Lister Cars. After a very successful season winning the British Championship, the race team ran out of cash at the end of that season.

Facing an uncertain future, Lee returned to sunny Yorkshire to work for Post Vintage Engineers, restoring and preparing historic Aston Martin road & race cars. With a young family, Lee had to chase the money, so he went back to his original employer.  This is where the Land Rover bug started to bite, the company had an MOD contract, which saw Lee repairing military Land Rovers and 4×4 & 6×6 trucks. The opportunity then arose for Lee to work for a well known Land Rover specialists in Leeds in 2001 before founding Adventure 4×4 in 2004.

With over 24 years experience in the industry, Lee has worked on everything from basic shopping cars right through to heavy plant machinery to million pound race cars, with everything in between, including coaches, HGV’s, and even JCB’s.

Ryan Allen

Ryan, Lee’s son has grown up around Land Rovers all his life. (this is him, aged 11, stripping a 300TDi engine).  The motor trade was  natural progression for Ryan when he left school. His official motor trade career started at Audi.  Unfortunately, with Ryan experiencing what it was like in a proper workshop throughout his teenage years, he found the work at Audi boring.  He is currently studying vehicle mechanics at college whilst working  part time here at Fat Lad 4×4.
